Report on July 17 Make Good Trouble

We marched in Peace. We act in Power.

We honor the legacy of Congressman John Lewis, civil rights activist, humanist, and early proponent of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. That act guaranteed our constitutional right to equal voting access, but thanks to the Supreme Court’s Shelby vs Holder decision and the Trump Administration, voting rights are now in jeopardy - for all of us.

The John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act seeks to reinstate our long held federal voter protections, but it is being held up by the Senate. Join us to demand that Congress act now to protect our voting rights, along with our civil rights, our human rights, and the rights of our families, friends and neighbors. Remind them that the power belongs to the people. All people. Together, we can challenge injustice and prevent them from stealing our liberties. As John Lewis put it:

“Do not get lost in a sea of despair. Be hopeful. Be optimistic. Our struggle is not the struggle of a day, a week, a month, or a year, it is the struggle of a lifetime. Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble.”

Folks from the Jefferson County Food Bank tell us that the need has gone way up and because of the current federal administration, the supplies have been cut way down. Supplies once plentiful, are now dwindling.

The Jefferson County Food Bank’s truck will park on the outer corner of the Safeway parking lot during the Thursday, July 17th, "Make Good Trouble" rally on Sims Way at 4pm -5pm.. Everyone, if you can, bring a can of food (non expired shelf stable) with you and we can potentially collect hundreds of cans to distribute to needy residents.
